Mahatma Gandhi’s statue unveiled by Shri. Gopalkrishna Gandhi at Brigade Gateway Campus

Bangalore, January 30, 2015:  Bangalore based real estate major Brigade Group has made meaningful contributions towards community building over the years and the latest contribution is that of installing an iconic bronze statue of the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, today at the Brigade Gateway campus.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by Shri. Gopalkrishna Gandhi the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Governor of West Bengal from 2004 to 2009. Padma Vibhushan Dr. K Kasturirangan and M.R. Jaishankar, CMD of Brigade Group presided over the occasion.​

Mahatma Gandhi said no violence no hatred. People have to remember him as a man of courage. Today we see sectarian hatred among us.  To save others life Gandhiji gave his life.Terrorism is not against any religion, its against humanity.Gandhiji always stood with the weak and gave them assurance.  This is secularism.Gandhi belongs to a place where he is believed. He is believed here today.

Brigade Gateway is an apt location for such an iconic installation as it is one of the most integrated enclaves in an urban city centre and attracts over 20 million visitors every year. With the World Trade Centre Bangalore, Sheraton Bangalore Hotel and Orion Mall in the same campus, Brigade Gateway campus sees visitors from across the country and around the world. The 11 foot installation will serve as a constant reminder all these visitors for generations to come about Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership and sacrifice towards the creation of a free India and his principles of non-violence which are very relevant today.

Commenting on the unveiling of the statue, Mr. M.R. Jaishankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Brigade Group, said, “The installation of Mahatma Gandhi’s statute at the iconic Brigade Gateway campus is our humble tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji, who united millions of Indians and led them to achieve the impossible. While the world is shaken by acts of violence and hatred, we feel it is time for us to follow the principles of non-violence that Mahatma Gandhi preached and practiced.”

Brigade Group’s endeavor through the installation of the statue is for it to be a constant reminder of Mahatma’s ideals of universal love, non-violence, peace and truth.

While we considered many options for installations within the Brigade Gateway campus, we believe the message of Gandhiji is still very relevant today and look to this installation for inspiration and solace to tide over our present day strife.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been specially sculpted for Brigade Group.

  1.  The statue was sculpted by renowned sculptor Manayya N Badiger of Kalaburagi with the assistance of 6 young sculptors and a team of 25 artisans.
  1. It took one year to create the statue.
  2. It is made of an alloy comprising Brass and Copper and weighs 1000 kg
  3. It is a 11 ft statue on a 6 ft high granite pedestal and stands 17 ft tall.​

‘ICAI should strive to accelerate growth and create job’

Bangalore, January 29, 2015: The 3-day international conference organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was inaugurated today at Bangalore. The conference, “Accountancy Profession: Building Global Competitiveness; Accelerating Growth”, is part of ICAI’s effort to ensure continuous professional development of its members.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Mr Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Railways and Guest of Honour at the conference, said that the ICAI should “align immensely with the national priority schemes such as Make In India, Swachh Bharat Mission and Jan Dhan Yojana. The ICAI and members should strive to accelerate growth and create job in this country”. He also appealed to the CAs present at the conference and the Institute to adopt railway stations and help the Indian Railways to keep them neat and clean.

Other dignitaries present at the event included CA. K. Rahman Khan, MP and former Union Minister, ICAI President CA K. Raghu, ICAI Vice-President CA Manoj Fadnis, ICAI Secretary CA V. Sagar, SIRC Chairman CA P.V. Rajarameshwaran, and SIRC Bangalore branch Chairman CA Babu Tewar.

Addressing the gathering, CA K. Rahman Khan said that the Accountancy profession is the most respected profession in the world. “Being a 66 year-old institution, the ICAI with more than 235,000 members and 832,000 students, has played a crucial role in the economic development of our country. Now, it has to play a bigger role in reforming the government accounting,managing the losses of PSUs and investing in financial research,” he added.

Delivering a thought-provoking address, CA Mohandas Pai, Padma Shri Awardee, urged the country’s accounting professionals to increase global competitiveness. “India must adopt the global best practices in accounting, bring its regulations at par with the global standards, and provide chartered accountants professionals such environment wherein they can provide services across the countries with ease,” he said. He also stressed the need to increase competition from the Indian CA firms to the global counterparts.

The international conference

CA K. Raghu, President, ICAI, said at the event that the institute today is “the second largest accounting body and accountancy at present is the most popular profession in the world, and to top it all, there are plenty of job opportunities and prospects for the youth and professionals who aspire to pursue and join the profession”.

According to him, the Chartered Accountants’ course was highly cost-effective in nature when compared to other professional courses, and “this fact has helped the students from even very humble background in joining the journey of accountancy profession”.

As part of the continuous professional development of the members, the ICAI is organizing the 3-day International Conference on “Accountancy Profession: Building Global Competitiveness; Accelerating Growth” starting January 29 at Bangalore.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

In December 2014, the Prime Minister nominated the ICAI for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in addition to other personalities and organisations.

According to CA Raghu, the ICAI would contribute to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the following way:

· To have special cleanliness drive in all offices, branches, ITT Centres, reading rooms, library, auditoriums etc.

· Awareness campaigns through the vast network of 5 regional councils and 147 branches.
· Constitution of special dedicated committees, promoting paperless environment.
· Raising awareness through competitions, walkathons and workshops.
· Organizing Swachhata Saptah – Cleanliness Week.
· Fixation of sufficient number of waste bins with slogans and encourage people/staff/visitors to use them.

Over 2.35 lakh members and more than 8.50 lakh students of the ICAI, spread across the country, will play a vital role in taking this initiative of the Prime Minister forward and make a success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he added.

SATTE 2015 echoes the positive wave in Indian Travel & Tourism Industry

Key exhibits at the Rolls-Royce stand will be:

Bangalore, 28 January 2015: Implanted port (central venous access device) is a device which relieves a patient from treatment trauma while receiving chemotherapy by minimizing impact of chemotherapy drugs on patient’s veins, increasing ease of drug administration, reducing the need for frequent needle sticks, and facilitating quicker blood withdrawals. Implanted port improves patient’s quality of life – revealed in a session by Dr. Somashekhar, today.

In a cancer treatment, chemotherapy requires frequent injections, infusions of medication and other fluids directly into the bloodstream; implanted ports make these procedures more comfortable for the patients. In a short surgical procedure, the port, which is a small device with a hollow space inside that is sealed by a soft top, is implanted in the body of the patient; typically in the chest under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. It is placed completely beneath the patient’s skin, and is connected to a small flexible tube, which is inserted inside a blood vessel.

A special needle is inserted just below the surface of your skin and into the port so that medications and fluids can be given, and blood samples withdrawn. And the patient doesn’t have to take any special care of the port.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Somashekar, Chairman and Head Consultant – Department of Surgical Oncology from Manipal Hospitals said, “The patient acceptance rate of implanted ports in India is around 25%. It is a cost effective method when you look at the overall direct and indirect cost chemotherapy has & thus implanted port is a better option. More and more patients prefer implanted ports as the administration time is less, which makes the chemotherapy’s procedure shorter. The advantage of implanted ports is better quality of life & the minimal impact on the patient’s lifestyle. Compared to other centrally placed vascular access devices, ports are more likely to permit you to go about your normal day-to-day activities, like playing with your children, jogging, showering and swimming etc. Also it helps in completion of chemotherapy cycles more easily.”

On the lessen trauma, he further added, “As frequent needle sticks and certain cancer medications can damage the peripheral veins in your arm, making access more difficult over the time, an implanted port allows the doctor or nurse to carry out all these procedures without having to repeatedly stick your arm veins directly with a needle & also minimizes the damage to your veins.”
