Connect India Launches Last Mile Distribution Services in India

27th  August 2015, Bangalore: Connect India (CI), today announced the launch of their services across the country, in the presence of Mr. T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education. The award-winning composer-playback singer Mr. Shankar Mahadevan enthralled the audience with a special anthem composed for the Connect India Movement. Also present at the event were well-known lyricist Sameer Pandey and Suresh Peter, Composer of the Connect India anthem.

Connect India, founded by LR Sridhar, a veteran with over 35 years in the field of innovative logistics solutions, aims at creating a robust pan India last mile delivery network, covering over 25000 pin codes connecting all the metro, million plus population cities, 8000 plus small towns and create outreach to 500,000 villages . This Business model aims at developing a hyper local neighborhood convenience model of 1 sq. km delivery areas for urban markets and last few mile access for rural markets.  Long term vision of CI is that, this distribution platform will also work towards generating Re Commerce (rural enterprise) by empowering small rural artisans and producers to sell their produce through various e-commerce platforms.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. LR Sridhar said, “In spite of financial products, mobility and Internet fairly easily accessible in India, e-commerce delivery capabilities and access to e-commerce platforms are available to a marginal 5000 to 6000 pin codes by private players, while Indian post provides access to over 19,000 pin codes. Connect India’s robust platform will have the capacity to create Hyperlocal distribution centers of 1x 1 Sq Km and connect rural India with urban India. This is where Connect India will be a game changer in the logistics sector.”

“We target to appoint over 50,000 last mile delivery entrepreneurs as Connect India Centers (CICs), who in turn will provide employment to more than 200,000 delivery associates or ‘Customer Connect Associates’ from their local communities in the next 3 years. The Company will act as a platform to drive Make in India initiative and make significant difference to the livelihoods.

We strongly believe that technology supported by local knowledge will be the key differentiator, with a strong Mobile First approach.”

“In line with our vision to transform last mile delivery in India, we undertook a pilot with Connect India to create rural delivery outreach in Punjab. We are very excited to see the impressive results of the pilot. As part of the pilot we fulfilled 65 % of the orders the very first day in remote rural areas of Punjab and received cash on delivery within 24 hours. The volume of shipments is significantly increasing in these untapped pin codes across the country. Hence we aim to leverage the network of Connect India to serve our customers better in such areas going forward” said Samuel Thomas, Director Transportation, Amazon India.

Mr. Vineet Rai, CEO and Managing Director of Aavishkaar, which recently invested Rs. 32 cr in Connect India to enhance e-commerce in rural sector said, “Connect India has a robust model of developing village level entrepreneurs to bring efficient logistics and reverse logistics to taluk and sub-taluk-level communities. We believe this could create substantial development and livelihood impacts in rural India.”

Internet and logistic connectivity are tools that will go hand in hand to develop commerce in places, which do not appear on the potential index. Connect India will leverage the Digital India platform in a manner to provide services that will benefit the user and producer by bridging them in a fair and transparent way.  Going forward, CI intends to connect several likeminded companies to participate in improving design, packaging and quality of the yield of small and medium producers to improve small brown-box commerce and ramp up the economy on the next growth trajectory.

Gartner Says Modernization and Digital Transformation Projects Are Behind Growth in Enterprise Application Software Market Worldwide Enterprise Application Spending to Grow 7.5 Percent to $149.9 Billion in 2015

Bangalore, India, August 27, 2015 — Worldwide spending on enterprise application software will grow 7.5 percent to reach $149.9 billion in 2015, increasing to more than $201 billion in 2019, according to the latest forecast from Gartner, Inc. Analysts said that long-term growth in spending will be driven primarily by modernization, functional expansion and digital transformation projects.

“The majority of spending is going towards modernizing, functionally expanding or substituting long-standing business and office applications with cloud-based software-as-a-service,” said Bianca Granetto, research director at Gartner. “Projects have been approved and budgeted for, often over a multiyear period, meaning the pace of spending and adoption isn’t subject to any impending urgency.”

The market subsegments showing the highest growth during the forecast period of 2014 through 2019 will be marketing, e-commerce and advanced analytics software.

Gartner has identified a number of key trends in the application software market that affect the spending forecast.

Modernization of Core Enterprise Applications

In a recent Gartner survey, 45 percent of respondents with knowledge of their organization’s software strategy indicated that one of the current top five IT project priorities is “application modernization of installed on-premises core enterprise applications” and a further 41 percent indicated that “extending capabilities of core enterprise applications” is a top five priority.

Transitioning to New Consumption Models

As subscription-based alternatives and particularly software as a service (SaaS) are being adopted by organizations, a more predictable revenue pattern will emerge. A recent Gartner survey shows that alternative consumption models to traditional on-premises licenses are accounting for more than 50 percent of new software implementations; these include SaaS, hosted license, on-premises subscriptions and open source.

The Rise of Digital-Business-Related Market Dynamics

Competing successfully in the digital industrial economy is rapidly becoming a leading strategic imperative for businesses all around the world. This shift in business priority and focus brings a new perspective regarding applications. For example, the need to compete on an increasingly global scale stimulates enhancement, rationalization and re-engineering of supply chains, leading companies to modernize their supply chain system or adopt the latest supply chain management applications.

Organizations Will Extend or Replace Human Capital Management Systems with SaaS

Gartner predicts that by 2019, approximately 28 percent of installed human capital management systems globally will be SaaS-based, up from 13 percent in 2014. The inflection point globally will occur over the next five years as organizations replace their current systems or extend their current systems with SaaS-based solutions. However, there are wide variations beneath the global average penetration rates, with early adopting regions such as North America already at 19 percent in 2014 (projected to be 34 percent in 2019) while the Middle East and North Africa are still at the very early stages of SaaS penetration with only 4 percent of the installed base using SaaS as the deployment model.

Application Purchases Will Increasingly Be “Build,” Not “Buy”

Gartner predicts that by 2020, 75 percent of application purchases supporting digital business will be “build,” not “buy.” Gartner’s research shows that many organizations already favor a new kind of “build” that does not include out-of-the-box solutions, but instead is a combination of application components that are differentiated, innovative and not standard software or software with professional services (for customization and integration requirements), or solutions that are increasingly sourced from startups, disrupters or specialized local providers.

Reaching the Cloud Office Tipping Point

Gartner estimates that during 2015, 15 percent of business users are provisioned, in whole or in part, with office system capabilities from the cloud. Gartner expects this percentage to grow to around 60 percent by 2020. Since mid-2014, Gartner has seen a sharp acceleration in client inquiries regarding cloud office adoption. From a revenue growth perspective, the widespread move from on-premises to cloud office will disrupt the traditional revenue flow as more organizations pay smaller increments over a longer period of time.

Advanced Analytics Adoption to Grow

Gartner predicts that by 2020, more than 75 percent of organizations will deploy advanced analytics as part of a platform or analytics application to improve business decision-making. Companies are accelerating the shift in focus of their investments from measurement to analysis, forecasting and optimization. Deployment of advanced analytics technologies will become critical to achieving those aims.

Customer Relationship Management Continues Shifting to the Cloud

In North America, adoption of CRM via the cloud has become commonplace with organizations increasingly utilizing a hybrid model of on-premises and cloud products. However, SaaS adoption in some emerging regions is heavily constrained by network and data center infrastructure, government regulations on customer data moving across borders, and the lack of local-language SaaS/cloud offerings. Build-out of data centers by vendors and investment in local-language offerings are now on the rise and will begin to bear fruit. Gartner predicts that by 2020, about a quarter of organizations in emerging regions will run their core CRM systems in the cloud, up from around 10 percent in 2012.

More detailed analysis is available to Gartner clients in the report “Forecast Analysis: Enterprise Application Software, Worldwide, 2Q15 Update.”

Gartner analysts will present additional findings on the future of enterprise applications at the Gartner Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit 2015, December 1-3 in Las Vegas. Members of the media can register for the Summit by contacting

Additional information from the event will be shared on Twitter using #GartnerAADI.

AISATS BLR Air Freight Terminal at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru has been re-certified with TAPA FSR 2014 Class A Certification

Bengaluru, Aug 27th, 2015: Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd. (AISATS), India’s premier airport services company, has been re-certified with “TAPA FSR 2014 Class A” certification for its Air Freight Terminal at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR). AISATS BLR is the first Air Cargo Terminal Operator in India to have a warehouse facility certified for “TAPA FSR 2014 Class A” standards. The certification is considered to be the highest degree of warehouse security in comparison with the other Class B or Class C standards.

TAPA (Transported Asset Protection Association) is a unique forum that unites global manufacturers, logistics providers, freight carriers, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders with the common aim of reducing losses from national and international supply chains. FSR (Facility Security Requirements) is established to ensure the safe and secure in-transit storage and warehousing of any TAPA members’ assets throughout the world.

The certification was received from TUV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd., the German Certification, Inspection and Testing agency, which is also the TAPA IAB (Independent Audit Body). The audit was conducted on various parameters such as perimeter security, facility’s various tight access controls, secure handling of high value products, high tech equipment for cargo handling, installation of vital surveillance and alarm systems, safe and secure freight handover process and workforce integrity .

Back in 2012, AISATS Air Freight Terminal had received its first TAPA certification and AISATS was the only airport service provider to receive such a certification not only in India but also in IMEA (India, Middle East & Africa) region. The re-certification ensures consistency in adherence to highest security standards for its warehouse operations. It has also helped AISATS to maintain a competitive edge and reduced insurance liability exposure to the company. The TAPA FSR 2014 Class A Certification is in sync with other Security Management Systems and is relatively more difficult and practical. In comparison with the earlier FSR 2011 Class A standard, where the passing criteria is based on scoring and averaging, the new standard focuses on absolute conformance and compliance with each and every clause thus making it more stringent, accurate and diminishing the potential risk and threat to the maximum.

On getting recertified with “TAPA FSR 2014 Class A” Mr. Willy Ko, CEO, AISATS said, “At AISATS, safety and security is one of our core values and we always aim to provide best handling services, at all times… Re-certification of our – air freight terminal at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR) with TAPA FSR 2014 Class A Certification, which is the highest degree of warehouse security standards, not only shows AISATS’ commitment to ensure an increased security of warehousing and handling but also assures our customers the security expectations for their goods and products handled and stored in our warehouse.”

Mr. Chitradeep Banerjee the Auditor for this certification, who also happens to be the all India product Head of TAPA and the AGM-System & Industry for TUV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd. said. “After the first Gap Analysis Audit, challenges were evidenced with certain areas requiring special attention. Remarkably, before the final certification audit, the competent team took lot of efforts in bridging the gaps, giving a very positive message that nothing is impossible if you have the right attitude. The tenacity and the commitment of the top management was highly appreciable and it was a very well deserved certification for AISATS. I believe that they will surely sustain & maintain this high security standard at all levels in the days to come”.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. Bhaskar M, Director, TUV Rheinland India also said, “These days supply chain and the logistics service providers face a major challenge in ensuring safety for cargo movement in warehouses. These companies also incur a huge cost, liability and are prone to legal risk in case of any theft or losses. Our TAPA certification ensures the minimization of cargo losses from the supply chain through the development and application of global security standards. We are confident that, as a TAPA certified company, Air India SATS will be able to demonstrate to its customers and investors that it uses industry-respected best practices and have an edge over competition.”
